The SCAD exhibitions department, in partnership with the National Black Arts Festival, will present “Mercy, Patience and Destiny: The Women of Whitfield Lovell’s Tableaux” starting Thursday, July 9 at the ACA Gallery, Woodruff Arts Center. Lovell’s work incorporates figurative imagery from early portrait studio photographs in tableaux that offer poetic insight into the African American experience in the early 20th century. This exhibition showcases Lovell’s portrayal of African American women at a time when their efforts were a driving force for change in domestic and civic life. The exhibition will continue till Sunday, Aug. 23. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public. For more information, visit www.scadexhibitions.com or www.nbaf.org.
