Professional photographer and educator Will Crockett made an appearance at SCAD-Atlanta on Feb. 11. Crockett, who writes for ShootSmarter.com, gave a lecture and demonstration on lighting and portrait photography using lighting equipment provided by Bogen Imaging. Crockett announced that the equipment he used for the demonstration would be donated to SCAD-Atlanta–a retail value of approximately $50,000, according to Paul Wagner, a Bogen representative. “Bogen Imaging wants those who have a passion for image-making to be aware of the best accessories in the world around the camera,” said Wagner. “We distribute professional-grade imaging accessories.”
The lecture, which was sponsored by Bogen, included on-the-spot demonstrations by Crockett. He emphasized the fastest and most efficient ways to shoot a portrait, photographing volunteers from the audience, editing their shots, and printing them out on a large-format printer within minutes. Crockett focused on the importance of lighting the subject, and demonstrated a variety of lighting options for the audience. Using second year fashion student Alexa Johns as an example, Crockett spoke about the usefulness of the beauty dish, a lighting accessory typically used in fashion photography. Crockett also demonstrated several useful features of Adobe Lightroom, an image management application designed to assist professional photographers.
