Students talk about their hopes and expectations for SCAD’s scholarships

Applications are still being accepted for scholarships for current students until Thursday, April 30, and students have expressed their hopes and expectations for the scholarships.

Many students said they supported SCAD’s offer of more scholarships. A common misunderstanding around campus, however, is that scholarships only apply to second- and third-year students. Even though most scholarships require at least 45 credit hours, there are a few that are available to first-year and transfer students. Read more

Double perspectives at SCAD

Becky WhiteBecky White, an alumna of SCAD-Savannah where she majored in performing arts, is now an administrative assistant in the student services department at SCAD-Atlanta. She serves as a liaison with various SCAD departments, including the, residence life and housing, student life, career services, counseling and student support services, international student services and recreation and health. She can most often be found on the first floor, near the offices of academic advising, bursar and Dean of Student Services, Art Malloy. She is there to offer students support when needed. lyons.jpgWhen people enter SCAD-Atlanta, they may notice that there are a varied selection of people from all different nationalities. They all come from distinct walks of life too. The population at SCAD-Atlanta is certainly rich in diversity.

Art Malloy, dean of student services, said that diversity at SCAD-Atlanta means several things. “SCAD is a community of artists, each of whom brings to campus a uniqueness that is worthy of celebration,” he said of the student population. Read more

Economy situation slams students

economy.jpgThere is no question that the current economic situation has hit some students hard at SCAD-Atlanta. Students appear to be facing difficulties with finding jobs, paying their bills (including tuition), and are going out less.

Phylisha Phillips, a transfer fashion design student, said that she lost her job and that it took her four months to find a new one. “I’m on a loan to come to SCAD. I couldn’t pay my bills when I lost my job for four months. I couldn’t go see movies, and I couldn’t buy food,” she said.
