The office of counseling and student support services will transmit all disability accommodations via e-mail, effective Fall 2009. This does not replace face-to-face contact with students (with the exception of eLearning students). CSSS will e-mail disability accommodations to students with pertinent attachments such as accommodation implementation instructions, alternate site testing agreements, note-taking protocol and note-taking sign-up sheets. They also will attach a faculty FAQ document based on two faculty development focus groups held this summer. CSSS anticipates that this document will answer many questions, but does not replace the department’s availability for on-site, phone and e-mail consultations. Faculty and students are free to consult CSSS staff at any time.
Students will be oriented to electronically transmit accommodations and applicable attachments to faculty. However, accommodations are not effective until the student has a face-to-face meeting with the faculty member to discuss implementation of the accommodations. The only exception to this rule is for eLearning students/faculty, where face-to-face meetings may not be possible. Accommodation memos will specify the learning style of the student, which will be helpful to faculty when choosing instructional modalities. Call the disability office with questions at 912.525.6971 (Savannah and eLearning) or 404.253.3400 (Atlanta).
