AtlantAmation | Deadline: April 1
The SCAD Atlanta School of Film and Digital Media is excited to announce AtlantAmation — a premiere showcase for SCAD-produced outstanding animation, Friday, April 9, 7 p.m., in the newly renovated, historic Strand Theater in Marietta. The evening’s screening will feature the long-awaited world premiere of the most recent SCAD Atlanta group project animation, “Jaguar McGuire,” and include additional short films by SCAD students. The show will take a broad view of animation, so you MOME, ITGM, and VSFXers send us your completed animation-ish work. For your film to be considered for the show, please submit them in raw animation Quick Time format on a DVD, labeled clearly as follows:

Title of work, your name, date of completion, for what class (if any), medium, running time, your e-mail address, and your phone number. Place the labeled DVD in the submission box in the equipment sign-out office (aka The Cage) no later than Thursday, April 1. Submitting well ahead of that deadline is strongly encouraged. (Note to Professors: If you know of any projects that should be submitted, please send an e-mail to acquisition coordinators Keith Ingham and Becky Wible Searles with the label information as above.

ShopSCAD Entries
SCAD is accepting submissions from students, alumni, faculty and staff members for shopSCAD, committed solely to the sale and exhibition of SCAD-related art and designs. Submissions may be made by mail, e-mail or appointment. Artists are encouraged to provide samples or provide images via CD, JPGs or photographs (no slides). Include information concerning size, materials, prices and contact information. Resumes and biographies are helpful but not required. All artwork and design submissions should be sent to Amy Zurcher at akeith@scad.edu. For more information, contact (912) 525-5180.

SCAD Web site home page

SCAD students and faculty are encouraged to submit images of their work for consideration as home page images on the SCAD Web site. High-resolution JPEG format images only, with the smallest dimension greater than 1,000 pixels. Images may be cropped to fit the landscape orientation of the site. Student artwork should include the name of the student, hometown, degree sought and major; title of the work; medium; dimensions (when appropriate); and year work was produced (e.g., Jane Smith, Brookline, Mass., B.F.A. student in painting, Morning Dew, oil on canvas, 8” x 10”, 2003). Faculty artwork should include faculty member’s name, position and department; title of work; medium; dimensions (when appropriate); and year work was produced (e.g., Mary Williams, professor of illustration, Tybee Pier, chromogenic print, 2004). Savannah Film Festival accepting entries for 2010 | Deadline: July 1
The Savannah Film Festival, hosted by the Savannah College of Art and Design, is accepting entries for the 2010 festival, to be held Oct. 30-Nov. 6. Featuring the best in independent, innovative and influential film from around the world, the annual festival presents a full range of cinematic creativity from both award-winning professionals and emerging student filmmakers. Competition will be held for features, shorts, documentaries, animation and student films. All entries must be postmarked by July 1, 2010.

Paperless entries submitted via Withoutabox’s International Film Festival Submission System are preferred. Visit www.scad.edu/filmfest for the link. Entries will also be accepted in prepaid and packed containers; contestants should submit work for preview on DVD or NTSC for Regions 0 and 1. Entries must either be in the English language or subtitled in English. To be eligible for the festival, feature films must be no less than 40 minutes long, and short films must be 5-25 minutes long. Submitted films and materials will not be returned unless a self-addressed, postage-paid return envelope is included with the submission. Regardless of original format, all competition films screen on DigiBeta, Beta SP format or 35mm for festival presentation. Incomplete submissions or “works in progress” will not be considered.

A screening committee will view all entries, and a select panel will choose films for the festival competition. The Savannah Film Festival and the Savannah College of Art and Design do not assume liability for damage to entries due to mishandling or poor packaging during shipping.

The Savannah Film Festival regularly screens award-winning films before their national release dates at the beautifully restored Trustees Theater, a 1946 cinema house, and the Lucas Theatre for the Arts, a former Vaudeville venue. Savannah becomes a film lover’s paradise during this weeklong event, which also features workshops, panel discussions and presentations by well-known artists and filmmakers. Films screened at the festival have come from Scotland, England, Vietnam, Australia, Switzerland, Ukraine, Israel, China, Germany, Canada, the United States and Ecuador, and special guests in attendance have included Hugh Dancy, Woody Harrelson, Emmy Rossum, Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Peter O’Toole, Kathleen Turner, Danny Glover, Milos Forman and Alec Baldwin.

VisionFest | Deadline: July 28
VisionFest is a juried student animation festival and competition, will be held Oct. 22-24, 2010 in Indianapolis, Ind. High school, undergraduate and graduate students from around the globe are invited to submit their work. Category winners in each student division are selected by a jury panel of industry experts. Submission deadline: July 28. There is no entry fee. Competition Categories: Animation (2D & 3D) and Games/Interactive Arts. Joan Derryberry Art Gallery | Deadline: Sept. 1
The Joan Derryberry Art Gallery at Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, Tenn., is seeking artists for solo exhibitions for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons. A large gallery space, free admission, will award a substantial stipend along with expenses. All media will be considered, and exhibitions run approximately four weeks. Images must be submitted on CD containing nothing but JPEG files approximately 2 MB (no folders), 300 dpi, 7 inches or 2100 pixels on longest side. No slides, no PowerPoint or other presentation formats; no iPhoto or other proprietary image software information. Mail entry to: University Art Committee, attn: Janis Nunnally, Box 5194, 1000 N. Lost Art Contest: Recreate Missing Masterpieces | Deadline: March 11, 2010
SCAD hosts its second annual Lost Art Contest, Apr. 9, 2010, at the university’s Atlanta location. SCAD students are encouraged to recreate a lost work of art based on a written description of the art and your art historical and critical understanding of the culture that created it. You may choose to render a work from any period in the history of art. The only stipulation is that the work no longer exists or never existed, and that it does not survive in any kind of photographic documentation.

Entries will be judged on how well the artistic representation reflects an understanding of the culture that created it, and how well this is expressed by the accompanying written statement. Finalists will be selected to present their work, both visual and written, at the symposium in April, at which time the winners will be chosen and prizes awarded. 2010 Adobe® Design Achievements Awards | Deadline: June 4
This is an excellent opportunity to win recognition and professional software tools, as well as to travel and connect with peers and professionals from around the world. There are 12 categories to enter in three media areas: interactive media, video and motion, and traditional media. These categories offer students a huge variety in their choices of design and expression. Students will have the opportunity to be selected as finalists, and all finalists will win a trip to Los Angeles, Calif., during the Adobe MAX conference, as well as Adobe® software.  Winners will receive a $3,000 cash prize. SCAD libraries student art contest
All current SCAD students are invited to design an original bookmark for the SCAD libraries: the top creation will be printed and distributed at multiple SCAD locations. Designers sought for logo competition
Working Class Studio, SCAD’s product development venture, is seeking talented designers to assist with a prestigious corporate logo design competition. Interested participants are invited to submit three to five samples of previously developed logo designs for review. Qualified candidates will be contacted with further information and details about the project. Artists whose designs are chosen for submission will receive monetary compensation for their work.
