Sigma carries a wide array of high quality accessories as well as their own brand of cameras. With mounts for Nikon, Canon and Sony just to name a few, Sigma lenses are on par with Canon and Nikon lenses. Luckily for us, photo majors can rent them from “The Cave” on the fifth floor of C Building. Unfortunately, they are only here for this quarter. I highly recommend photo majors to test them out before they are gone.

It’s sad that such great lens will only be available at SCAD Atlanta until the second week in March. But there is a logical explanation to this. I had the chance to talk with Brett Wells, the Technical Representative for Sigma. I asked him why Sigma provided the lenses for us only for a quarter and he replied:

“Sigma is trying to get our equipment into as many hands as possible. We have a multi-tiered approach, including trade shows, convention and dealer events on the consumer and professional front, and Sigma University for the education market. Sigma University also includes a 10% discount from retail for purchases made by students and educators. Any rebates available to the regular consumer are applied on top of that discount. There are a number of dealers participating in the program, including Showcase here in Atlanta.”

He further explained that Sigma University has a loaner program which loans equipment to institutions to use for a term, to show the students the quality and value of their products, this helps ease the pressure of budget restraints and equipment shortages on institutions.

The photography department has mounts for Nikon and Canon cameras so that the lens are compatible with those brands. There are only a few weeks left until finals, why not give the Sigma lens a try before they depart?

Here is the list of Sigma lenses that they provide this quarter:

Sigma for Canon 105mm, 12-24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 70-200mm, and 85mm

Sigma for Nikon 105mm, 12-24mm, 24-105mm, 24-70mm, 35mm, 50mm, 70-200mm and 85mm

Special thanks to Travis, the head of the Photography Department and Brett Wells from Sigma for providing the resources for this article.
