On the scariest day of the year, SCAD Atlanta will become overrun by an epic battle between humans and zombies. At least this is what SCAD’s Intercultural club UNI has planned.

UNI’s acting president fourth-year sequential art student Alex Woods stated that the club spent the entire summer fine-tuning the details for the Zombies vs. Humans events, which is scheduled to commence on Halloween, Oct. 31. Woods describes the event as “a tag game that has been played in colleges and urban gaming clubs all across the country for years.” This year, UNI is introducing the game, which is already played on the Savannah-campus, to Atlanta with an intercultural twist.

In an event that sounds realistic to anyone that has been watching the news, a virus is sweeping the campus and students are encouraged to participate in finding a cure. Unlike reality, this virus is transforming your everyday SCAD student into a walking, flesh-eating corpse. Students who sign up to play as humans are allowed to carry an approved list of foam-crafted weapons to protect themselves from the students who have registered to play as zombies (I can just picture the costumes). Human players will receive fun clues in a “James Bond: Mission Impossible”-ish fashion while zombie players attempt to tag them before they can solve the clues and find the cure.

The battle does not start until next Friday, but the game has already begun. Students can start racking up clues and mission points (which will be used to determine a winner) by registering and attending pre-battle events. Three important pre-battle dates are:

Friday, Oct.24
Zombies vs. Humans Day: Registration Deadline
The game starts next Friday. All students interested in playing are encouraged to register online by the end of this week. Online, participants are asked to name the country and city that they wish to represent. The game is limited to SCAD students and interested employees.

Wednesday, Oct. 29
Zombies vs. Humans Day 1: Incubation Period (Flag Day/International News Day)
Students will receive an email detailing where they can pick up their free survival kit, which includes an appreciation gift and the first clue of the game. All SCAD students are invited to wear international clothing on this day.

Thursday, Oct. 30
Zombies vs. Humans Day 2: Latency Period (Briefing Day)
UNI members will teach students how to play the game and lead a question and answer session in the Spring House Magnolia Room between 5-9 p.m. Players will receive their second clue.

Halloween at SCAD Atlanta is going to be interesting. Zombies vs. Humans is scheduled for Friday Oct. 31 from morning to 6 p.m. Students can find more information about the epic battle game on UNI’s Facebook page.
