A male model marched down the runway as a Grateful Dead bear donning a pink fur motorcycle jacket paired with orange acid wash beach shorts. The mood was psychedelic at the Jeremy Scott Spring/Summer 2015 runway premiere, which took place on September 10. Scott has been known for his outlandish yet refined designs but this show was a disappointment with its lack of innovation and cohesiveness.

The flower child mashup of baby doll dresses and patchwork fibers were the only pieces that stayed true to the ‘70s hippie. The boots looked as if Doc Marten resurrected Janis Joplin for an exclusive collaboration, which could be a heavy-hitter for next year’s warm weather trends. However, in contrast to previous collections, the targeted consumer seemed puerile and young, which explains the Miley Cyrus cameo.

Cyrus wasn’t there just to show face as Scott debuted her accessory line, “Dirty Hippie,” on the runway. The whole collaboration came about after seeing her handmade creations at her home during the July 4th holiday. In an interview with V Magazine, the twerk star explained her creative process: “I had a bunch of f***ing junk and sh*t, and so instead of letting it be junk and sh*t, I turned it into something that made me happy.” Couldn’t have said it better, except no one is cracking a smile.

Another downer to this “Dazed and Confused” story is the fact that it seems like two collections in one. Midway through, the energy is debased with an enlarged monstrous face of a pumpkin paired with Flintstones-inspired purple shorts. Who knew we could celebrate Halloween in the warmer months? In addition to the jack-o’-lantern sweatshirt, the last nine looks feature an 8-ball bomber jacket and a strapless skull and flame-print bubble dress. Seems as if our flower child took a trip to the local Hot Topic.

Undoubtedly, Scott has never ceased to bring the shock factor. But these low concept designs missed the yellow VW Beetle to Woodstock — and left many fashionistas dissatisfied. Let’s hope next season he doesn’t miss his ride to the festival.
